3 Pests Attracted to the Exterior Windows of Your Home

Interior Window — Newport, MN — Paffy’s Pest Control

The windows on our homes provide a lot of natural sunlight and great views of the outside world, but no homeowner wants the view obstructed by pests and insects. For many different reasons, a variety of insects may be attracted to the windows on your home, and their invasion could become a major problem.

Learn about three types of various pests you may find in windows on your home in the Metro area. Once you recognize and identify the pests, there are a variety of professional options to keep your windows free and clear of any problems.

1. Flies

House flies are not just attracted to the windows on your home, they often try find their way into your home directly. However, the flies may choose to stay in the window area during the warmer parts of the day. If your window has a screen, flies will often cling to the screens and find any openings they can to get inside the house.

To remove fly attractants, attempt to keep any garbage or food away from window areas. But if the flies have become a nuisance and are constantly on the window, then a professional treatment may be needed.

For treatment, a pest control worker treats a window and the area around the window to prevent flies from congregating near the window or reproducing in the area. And when you eliminate flies, you also eliminate the possibility of them spreading germs around your home. You also will not have to worry about the presence or maggots or dead flies taking up space on the window sill.

2. Yellow Jackets and Hornets

If you see yellow jackets or hornets near the window, the flying insects probably don’t want to gander inside. In many cases, the yellow jackets have built a nest within some part of the window frame. For example, the corners of a window frame may contain small holes or openings where the yellow jackets built a nest.

A hornet uses the same process, so keep in mind that many of the windows on your home may be prone to the nest areas. When a window is opened, or if you come close to the nest, you may be stung or bitten if the insect feels threatened.

A pest control worker eliminates the nest and sprays the area with a specific pesticide used to deter the insects from coming back. The removal of yellow jackets and hornets will ensure your windows are safe when you want to leave them open or enjoy the view outside.

3. Spiders

With so many other bugs and insects attracted to a home's windows, a spider is a natural insect to find as well. This is because spiders build large webs in the corners of window areas to trap bugs and feed on them.

Over time, a spider may lay eggs, which will hatch, and then your windows could fill with all types of webs and spiders. Not only does the web block the views outside the window, but some spiders may bite or be poisonous, like the Northern black widow.

A bite may occur when you open the window or invade a spider's web as you try to clean areas. A pest control worker will not only get rid of the webs on the window, but implement multiple ways to prevent the spiders from returning.
